Lambda Theta Phi

Nuestro LegadoRun

We ran for our legacy

Thank you to everyone who showed up, and to the clubs who brought their people. Every dollar given from here goes into the next $1,000 award.

The whole group gathered under the Lambda Theta Phi tent for the group photograph.

Seven clubs. One community.

Four brothers strolling in a tight line on stage under red light, the arena crowd behind them.

The morning

How it went

We met on Lee Street on a grey Saturday morning in September, in front of a food truck and a wall of flags from every country in the room. Brothers came in brown letters. Runners came in the jerseys of the places their families are from, Mexico, Peru, Honduras, Colombia. Somebody brought a dog. Somebody brought a baby.

There were remarks, there was a group picture that took three tries to fit everybody in, and then everybody went out onto the BeltLine together, some running it, some walking it, all of them moving the same direction for the same reason. The fast ones came back and ran it again alongside the people still finishing.

Afterwards the Finish Line Festival at Monday Night Garage ran until two: a DJ, food, the raffle drawings, and an oversized check for a thousand dollars made out to a student who will never have to explain to a registrar why the balance is short.

That is the whole point of the morning, and it is worth saying plainly. Nobody ran a marathon. Nobody had to. People showing up on a Saturday morning is the entire mechanism by which a semester gets saved.

Running for our legacy

Gracias

This was not ours alone

A free run, a finish line festival, a raffle and a scholarship are not something a chapter does by itself. Every one of these showed up with something: a venue, a crowd, a prize, a camera, a morning, or a donation.

The run clubs
Millas Por Dias co-hosted the morning and brought their people. Move Peach, Los Corridos de Atlanta, Corre Atlanta, Cherokee Run Club and Pace ran it with us. Six clubs who did not have to make this their Saturday and did.
Monday Night Garage
For the courtyard, the shade, the power and the run of the place until two in the afternoon.
The raffle sponsors
Sunglass Hut set up a table and handed prizes over in person. Every prize on the board came from somebody who gave it for free so that a five dollar ticket could turn into a scholarship.
The brothers of Lambda Mu
Who were there at half past nine setting up tents nobody was going to thank them for, and were still there taking them down at two.
Everybody who gave
By Zelle, by Cash App, by Venmo, by five dollar raffle ticket, by handing cash across the table on the way out. One hundred per cent of it is going to students. That has been true since the first year of this scholarship and it was true on Saturday.

Chivalry Above Self. Nuestro Legado.

Why we run

The run is over. The semester is not.

The next student is already registering for classes they are not sure they can pay for. That is what the next thousand dollars is for.

Every dollar given from here goes into the next $4,000 of awards, enough for four full scholarships.
